A 19-year-old man was arrested in Palma after fleeing the scene of an accident where he hit a 2-year-old boy with an electric scooter. The incident led to injuries for both the child and a police officer.

The Local Police of Palma has arrested a 19-year-old Spanish youth who fled from the agents after hitting a two-year-old boy with his scooter. The incident occurred around 8:05 PM on Wednesday on Nuredduna street, during a patrol by the Immediate Intervention Unit (UII) in a high presence area.

The agents observed two young individuals speeding on an electric scooter through a pedestrian street. Upon noticing the police presence, the individuals evaded the officers with a sudden change of direction, endangering pedestrians. After hitting the boy, the involved parties attempted to escape on foot in different directions, leaving the scooter at the scene.

One of the individuals was arrested after a brief chase for an alleged offense of serious disobedience to authority. This young man provided the identification of the other individual as the scooter driver. During the attempted arrest, the vehicle ran over an officer, causing a significant cut on the officer's right leg that required urgent medical attention and 23 stitches.

The parents of the run-over boy were informed about the steps to take in order to report the incident, while the Accident Vehicles Unit (UVAC) took charge of investigating the accident. The detainee, who had no criminal record, was released with the obligation to appear before the judicial authority when required, after being fully identified.

The scooter underwent a speed test that revealed a result of 81 km/h. The injured officer is on sick leave but is recovering well. During the pursuit, the young individuals received orders to stop which they disobeyed, leading to a tragic outcome with the impact on the two-year-old boy, who was thrown several meters due to the force of the collision.
